STRONG GIRL SYNDROME
Perfect hair, right outfit ,quiet, polite and oh yeah, the most important thing an abundance of smiles.Research conducted shows that,a majority of girls are encouraged from a young age to measure their worth based on how well they accomplish their tasks.Thinking back, how many times did we hear the phrase " be a good girl".While there is nothing wrong with getting good grades, smiling or being well behaved, research has shown that a majority of girls grow up to be people pleasers. They stay in jobs because they have to,they don't speak up when they need to because they believe they shouldn't.If we have learned anything about being a woman in this century,it's that we have to stand out and speak up.We need to be strong girls .
Strong girls know to set goals and achieve them.Nothing good comes without a fight.Nothing is out of bounds.Boxer, teacher, race car driver, model ,artist, doctor nothing is impossible.Remember shortcuts come at a price.Achievements will last you a lifetime,so aim higher than high.Oprah once said "Don't worry about being successful be significant ,success will follow",pretty ironic coming from one of the most famous woman in the world right?Making a difference no matter how small .It is the stories that will inspire another generation of girls.
Be your true self,it takes courage, but its worthwhile. How you act, dress, speak ,you get to choose, you and no one else. The world is full of labels and being a girl puts you on the receiving end of a majority of them. You make life harder if you allow yourself to be shaped by society. Are you an introvert? there's nothing wrong with staying in, that is who you are, extroverts can not also change their nature. You have control over most things you do ,so forget what 'everyone' else seems to be doing and do what you want, what makes you happy and content.Be honest with yourself.
Learn to speak up. Be very clear about boundaries and do not be afraid to fight for what you want.Women have fought over the years to be heard do not let their efforts go to waste.Previously a woman's place was in the house with an occasional low paid job.Even if women everywhere have fought and achieved major milestones since then we are still at a disadvantage.Unfortunately this presents an opportunity for abuse and continued oppression of women and girls all over the world. So how do we fix this?Nobel prize winner Yusuf Malala suffered a bullet to the head in Pakistan because she fought to get an education. Her father had taught her the value of education. Her story inspired millions everywhere to support the education of girls.Learn to make intelligent arguments remember its not how loud you speak that matters but how well you do.
Learn to be independent. No this does not mean that I want you to be lonely. You need to be your best cheerleader.Work towards economic independence.Money is the cause of a lot of evil ,this is especially true in relationships and marriages.Research has shown that girls and women feel inclined to stay because of their financial situation.Being independent will be strongest motivator to making good choices even in the face of failure. In the words of my favorite female fighter Ronda Rousey," Someone has to be the best in the world why not you?"
Mmmmmh, nice!
